8th Grade is an extremely important year in a student's English career.  The New York State English Language Arts Test is administered in early spring, and many new domain-specific English curriculum and standards are integrated into the teaching of the course.

Students begin the year with a short story unit and jump into The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.
