Air Force Academy Scholarships

The United States Air Force Academy, located just north of Colorado Springs, Colorado, is a military academy for officer candidates for the United States Air Force. An Academy education is valued at more than $416,000, yet there is no cost to cadets. What is required in return is a commitment to serve as an officer in the Air Force. The length of commitment depends on your career path and other, such as graduate or medical school, that may extend it. Burger King Scholars

Created in memory of Burger King Co-Founder James “Jim” W. McLamore, the Burger King Scholars program provides scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $50,000 to high school students and BK employees and their families. Scholarships are intended to offset the cost of attending college or post-secondary vocational/technical school. Recipients are selected through an application process that takes into consideration their grade point average (GPA), work experience, extracurricular activities, and community service. In 2022 alone, the Foundation awarded over $4.6 million in scholarships to nearly 4,000 students.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be living in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam or Canada
  • Be graduating high school seniors (U.S., Puerto Rico or Guam), graduating from grade 12 (Canada) or graduating from home school education in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam or Canada
  • Have a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent
  • Plan to enroll full-time, without interruption, for the entire academic year at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school or CEGEP or equivalent in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam or Canada

Elks Emergency Grants

These grants are for any student who will attend college or is currently attending college that has a disabled parent that is a member of the Elks. This grant is also available for a student whose parents was an Elk at the time of death. This grant, for up to $4,000 a year, is NOT an academic scholarship and can be renewed each year of college attendance. Deadline: on-going.

Elks Most Valuable Student

The Elks grants an award to high school seniors, or the equivalent, who are citizens of the United States. Applicants do not need to be related to a member of the Elks. Please click here for more information.

Gouverneur Elks Lodge

The Gouverneur Elks Lodge #2035 offers a one-time scholarship in the amount of $500.

The applicant must be a child, step-child, grandchild, step-grandchild or legal dependent of a paid up, current Lodge member in good standing.

The applicant must be either enrolled in an accredited college or trade school or have been accepted at an accredited college or trade school and provide proof of the same to the Lodge.

Applications are available by request through the local Gouverneur Elks Lodge.

New York State Elks Association Scholarships

NYS Elks Association Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 are available to children and stepchildren of NYS Elks members in good standing. High school seniors and current college students are eligible annually. Applications must be filed with the Secretary of the sponsoring Lodge by December 13, 2024.

  • High school seniors who want to apply must complete the Elks Most Valuable Student Award application (enf.elks.org/MVS) print a copy, and submit it along with the New York State Cover Page for High School Seniors (https://bit.ly/nyselksscholarships) to the Secretary of the sponsoring Lodge in which the parent is a member.
  • Current college students applying for the first time must complete the First Time Applicant form: https://bit.ly/nyselksscholarships.

New York State Elks Association Vocational Scholarships

New this year, the NYS Elks Association is offering scholarships in the amount of $500 to students who plan to attend a trade or vocational program to pursue a certificate or credential. The scholarship is available to graduating high school students or individuals who are within four years of earning their HS diploma or GED. Applicants must be a child or stepchild of a New York State Elk in good standing, a resident of New York, and a U.S. citizen.

The Excelsior Scholarship

Student must be a resident of NYS and have resided in NYS for 12 continuous months prior to the beginning of the term and have a combined federal adjusted gross income of $125,000 or less. Firemen's Association HELP Tuition Reimbursement Program

Firemen's Association of the State of New York Higher Education Learning Plan is a tuition reimbursement program for students attending community colleges up to 80 credit hours. Courses in any area can be taken. Student volunteers are eligible to have up to 100% of their tuition paid to them in exchange for fulfilling specific requirements with a volunteer fire department. This incentive is being offered to help address a shortage of members with New York Volunteer Fire Departments. ROTC

With high costs of attending college, more and more students are considering Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs to help pay for college. ROTC is a college program offered at over 1,700 colleges and universities across the United States. ROTC prepares young adults to become officers in the U.S. military. In exchange for a paid college education and a guaranteed post-college career, cadets commit to serve in the military after graduation. As detailed below, each service branch has its own take on ROTC and ROTC scholarships. The Coast Guard does not have ROTC program.

St. Lawrence University - Fort Drum Scholarship

This award is to honor Fort Drum military dependents or soldiers finishing their tour of duty by facilitating their obtaining college degrees at St. Lawrence University. This scholarship will meet all financial need that exceeds he total amount of other awards received by qualified students.
